Vision Awareness Day
A free public service forum where attendees will get information, presentations, and hands-on demonstrations about all types of vision loss and how it can be successfully accommodated. Participants can try out the newest technologies that enable people with any degree of vision loss--incuding total blindness--to read, use computers, work and attend school, travel, and remain independent. Free lunch is provided. The event is free and open to the public, but space is limited and registration is required. To register call 1-800-336-5658.

Cheerleading – Grades 3-4
Participants will cheer for the 3-4 grade tackle football teams participating in a 4 to 5 game/scrimmage season in the recreational in-house program. Cost is $45 per participant – Lakewood residents only.
Practice starts in September. Deadline for registration is August 31st. Participants 10 years of age and older must have a physical on file at the Recreation Department prior to participating.

Volunteer Tutor Training for 2008-2009 school year
Give the Gift of Reading. Tutor Today!

Did you know that only one out of every five elementary-aged children is read to in the home?

Cleveland Reads is seeking volunteer tutors to work with children or adults. A free, three-hour training is provided to teach techniques and skills necessary for tutoring. You will then be referred to one of 100 literacy programs in Cuyahoga County that need your help.

Building Literacy Skills in Children will be held Thursday August 14th from 5:30-8:30pm. Contact Volunteer Coordinator Jennifer Frigolette at 216-436-2116 or jfrigolette@uws.org to register for this free training or get more information.
