The Sixties: The Graduate
(1967) Directed by Mike Nichols Rated PG
Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman) has just returned to California after graduating from an East Coast college and wonders what he is going to do with the rest of his life. Mrs. Robinson (Anne Bancroft) has her predatory eye on him, but he falls in love with her innocent daughter, Elaine (Katherine Ross). One of the ground-breaking films of the late 1960s, the film is a biting satire on society and its values, and a dark comedy which is truly hilarious. Though made over 40 years ago, Professor Meehan still shows this film to college students who identify with its theme of the anxiety confronting graduates about to enter an uncertain “real world.”

The Black and White Affair/ The New Era
The Pop Shop Gallery is proud to announce its next event entitled, The Black and White Affair, on Saturday February 6th from 6-9pm. This show case of over 20 Cleveland artists will highlight the achromatic scheme of black and white imagery. Pieces will range from paintings, photographs, and drawings that all follow a contemporary style.
Meanwhile in (art)ificial gallery, The New Era exhibition will open simultaneously with the Pop Shop’s event. The New Era, has been described as the observations and exaggerations of Cleveland’s own, Rick Sans and Sergio Andujar II. The duo states “As we enter a new decade, we feel there is a mix of new and old within the social conscious. The things we grew up with, have come back in full circle, and seem to over saturate the world we live in.” The artwork is the celebration and rebellion of modern pop culture and its history. This show features artwork primarily on vinyl records as well as canvas and other found objects.
Rick Sans and Sergio Andujar II use a wide variety of mediums ranging from inks, acrylic paints, spray paint, screen printing, stenciling, and paint markers, on anything from vinyl records and canvas to blocks of wood. Their artwork and clothing line Sans Oceana has been seen on MTV, Nintendo commercials, feature films and Cleveland Fashion Week. Their styles are influenced by illustration, graffiti and anime.
These events will take place on February 6th, 2010 from 6-9pm. These events are free and open to the public. An adult after party will be held at Mullen’s on Madison at 9pm for all Pop Shop and (art)ificial guests.

Is He Dead?
A “new” comedy by Mark Twain
What happens when a group of poor artists stage the death of a friend to drive up the price of his paintings? A fake funeral, cross-dressing, and lovers' deceptions, to name a few.
Beck Center for the Arts presents the Cleveland premiere of the Mark Twain comedy, Is He Dead?, on the Mackey Main Stage, February 5 through 28, 2010. Show times are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays. Special 10 a.m. weekday matinees will take place February 11, 18, and 19.
Written by Twain in 1898, Is He Dead? richly intermingles elements of burlesque, farce, and social satire. Discovered by a Mark Twain scholar in 2003, Is He Dead? was adapted for modern audiences by talented playwright David Ives and staged on Broadway in December 2007 to strong critical reviews.
Tickets are $28 for adults, $25 for seniors (65 and older), $17 for students (with valid ID), and $10 for children (12 and under). An additional $3 service fee per ticket is applied at the time of purchase. Group discounts are available for parties of 13 or more.
