African Dance and Drum Workshop
1:30 PM - 3:30 PM
Energize your mind, body and soul with some exciting African rhythms!
-Learn to play basic East African drum rhythms
-Learn traditional East African dances, dance steps and movement
-Improve on your drumming skills or just come and have fun!
-Experience a new culture through this high energy, fun, community workshop
Bring a djembe drum and/or rattle. A select amount of drums will be supplied.
Time: Sat, Aug 29 from 1:30-3:30 p.m.
Fee: $30; Members receive 10% off
Matiga is a dancer, drummer and painter from East Africa. He grew up surrounded by the arts (his entire family are dancers!) in the historical town of Bagamoyo, Tanzania. From a very early age, he was performing music and dance throughout Tanzania and beyond, including Germany and Norway. Matiga has toured Europe and the US extensively with the Mama Afrika Circus and Cirque Zuma Zuma, even performing on Broadway! He is eager to share his Tanzanian culture through traditional and contemporary East African dance, drumming and stories.
