Mobile Banking
6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
NEOPC (Northeast Ohio Personal Computers) will host Michele Kirby from the Westlake US Bank branch, who will talk about using mobile apps that are gaining popularity with cell phone users. Mobile and online banking using the internet are highly rated for customer satisfaction and convenience, but what should we do to ensure safety and security? Banking scams abound, particularly during the tax season. How can we protect our accounts and identity? Be savvy and join us for a timely presentation. We offer conversation and refreshments at the Porter Room at Westlake Public Library at 6:30 p.m. The meeting starts at 7:00. Members and visitors are welcome. Lecture with Q&A: Holocaust Torah Scrolls: Legacies, Forgeries, Memory and Trauma
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
As the second World War approached, many Jews hid their congregational Torah scrolls for safekeeping. Some of these were found after the war in basements, attics, behind walls, and even in large repositories. Today, some are in active use while others are displayed in synagogue glass cases or in museums. Join Alanna Cooper for a lecture that explores American Jews’ intense interest in Holocaust scrolls, the rituals designed to honor them, and the ethical questions around their possible misuse, as well as the implications of a forgery market.
