I skimmed through the article in the PD yesterday and saw schools who received funds from the state money that is now coming but didn't see Lakewood. Does that mean we didn't receive any? Sorry if this was already talked about.

Hi Justine -

Lakewood did not apply for or receive any of the funding announced the other day.

The reasoning was discussed in this topic:

Justine and Keith,

Actually, that thread dealt with the first round application for Race to the Top. The lateness reasoning does not apply to the second round application.

The LTA and Administration report that they jointly spent a great deal of time analyzing whether to apply for the second round. The LTA and Administration share that the Lakewood City Schools decided to not participate for the following reasons:

    Quote:
    1. The money was more for planning than for implementation.
    2. It was possible that compliance with requirements could cost more than we would receive.
    3. It is a new reform effort. Given the progress we have been making in recent years, we didn’t want to change our approaches.

Matt

Thank you. I didn't realize the specifications for the allotment of the money. I am guessing Cleveland's big pot is connected to the restructuring of all their new academies. Lakewood is doing a great job so couldn't see restructuring then.

Thanks for clarifiying! :o
