I have never noticed tomatos used in Chinese or Japanese food.

Is East Asian Cuisine fundamentally incompatible with tomatoes?

The tomato is native to the Western Hemisphere. It was introduced to Europe, through Spanish colonies in S. America. It also spread to the Philipines as a Spanish import. It is used in Pacific rim cooking, and China is a major producer of the vegetable,
