Where to get lamb?

Postby David Lay » Mon Nov 05, 2007 8:46 pm

Where is a good place (preferably in Lakewood) to get lamb? Watching Anthony Bourdain visit Iceland makes me want to make a traditional Icelandic soup...

Costco has good lamb. Sorry it's not in Lakewood.

Bah, I don't have a Costco membership. Heinen's website has lamb recipes, so I'm guessing they have it there...

Try TJ's...If they don't have it, they will get it. Heinens has some decent lamb.

While I haven't been to the middle east markets around w117 and lorain, I would bet that they would have lamb.

I'll give that a shot. Heinen's is convenient because there's one down the street from the office.

Time to make some Kjotsupa!

I've also bought good lamb from Heinen's.

I wish someone would butcher the Spelling Cow.

Brad-

Go to "Profile" and look for the lines under
"Always enable Smilies: Yes No"

: Yes No
: Yes No

Pick "No" on one of those no-name options.

The Cow will retire.

As for lamb, I do like the Costco lamb or I get it at the West Side Market.

I find it difficult to get what I want at any of the grocery stores. I would guess that TJ's would be accommodating as always if you order in advance, but small stores can't really get one piece-part, so you need to go somewhere where you could get a whole lamb to get a particular cut.

Costco has Australian leg of lamb that is superb.

It is deboned so I open it up and lay it flat, slather it with garlic and mustard, and throw it on the grill. Don't overcook lamb like most people do. MMMMM. The best.

Grace

Agreed....a good piece of lamb should be cooked no more than medium....

I like to marinate a deboned leg in olive oil and lemon, lots of chopped fresh garlic and fresh rosemary...

I'd have to say lamb is one of my favorite meats. Other people dislike it so I guess it may be an acquired taste.

Growing up we always ate it VERY overcooked, but at least to cooked to the point of being tender again. My mom made gravy with it so it was more like stew.

Once you eat a piece of lamb that is cooked, as Jeff said, just under medium, you'll never go back.

one of the middle east groceries along w.117/Lorain has "whole" goats. I would surmise there are lamb options also available.
