Lakewood Criterium this Saturday (road closures for Lakewood
This Saturday, July 28th is the 2nd annual Lakewood Criterium. This amazing bicycle race in the West End of Lakewood is a great family event. Come join in the fun and if you feel you can race there will be a community challenge and a kids race (ages 6-12). http://www.lakewoodcriterium.com
Here is a picture of the map of the race. Many streets will be closed so if you have travel thru the west end of Lakewood, please make note and try an alternate route. The roads will be closed from 2pm till 9pm.

Joe is right, this is event we are lucky to have, and we really have to do everything possible to keep
it here and running. Great excitement, great racing, good bars and parties in the neighborhood.
As for Joe's photos, always really, really nice.
Thanks for sharing.

If you have not been to this event, stop down, and check it out.
Many parties in the area, every bar and restaurant still open.
This Saturday, late in the day.

This past Saturday was the Lakewood Criterium Bike Race, and it was better than last year.
Better course, better set-up, better crowd(larger), and damn good races!
Great Job by Brian and Missy Limkemann, The Chamber of Commerce, and all of the sponsors
and volunteers, it was another great day for Lakewood.

Photos are keyed into the map.
Category 3 races.
Coming through the fastest corner on the course.
Mickey Krivosh, owner of Around the Corner and Georgetown Grill, checks out the action.
Mayor Summers with Lakewood's First Lady Wendy out on their bikes checking the action.
Tom and Adria Clark, and their children, Julian and Fiona. Tom and Adria own
Black Bird Bakery, which has just insanely great pastries! They were also sponsors of this event.
Mike Gill editor of The Great Lakes Courier, stops by the vendor tents and midway and
spots Brett Davis, in the Velodrome tent. Brett is President of Fast Track Cycling, which is
the group behind building the Velodrome. That will be so nice when it is finished!
Start of the main race, Category 1,2,3 - 75 minutes, about 33 laps on the mile course.

Erika Durham, an editor at the Great Lakes Courier, President of Bike Lakewood, one of
the owners of Rising Star Coffee, and beer aficionado peddled by on her tall bike and stopped.
By 7:30 the sun was getting low, and in their eyes on the short Detroit straight.
Sending them into a blinding sun.
Parnell and John at the West End. The West End Tavern was handing out cowbells that
could be heard all around the course.
The finish around 8pm saw a big crowd.
Councilman David Anderson and family.
Team Panther took the top 3 spots.

the mayor's wife is sitting on a bike that is identical to the one that was stolen from me in late 2010. it's locked was clipped in the middle of the day from the laundry room in my apartment bldg. here in lakewood. filed a police report complete with serial numbers and description but sadly i had to plunk down another five hunj on a new specialized.
be sure that i am not accusing the mayor's lovely wife of any crime here.
much like pee wee herman i look for my old bike around every corner and have yet to see one like it. til now.
i miss my old friend.

oops. Somebody fell victim to the ugly potholes/crevices at Detroit and Sloane. The city put cold patch down
on insignificant areas on (recently blacktoped) Edanola, but didn't fill the bad spots on Detroit and Sloane that were
highlighted with orange spray paint. I looked at some of those potholes and thought they looked pretty dangerous
to the riders. Some were at/near the apex of the turn and just the right size to catch a wheel.
