Parents petitioning schools to continue online education for families who need it

Families received mail from the Lakewood School District last night letting them know that buildings will re-open for school on October 19th.

This is not good news for families who have health risk issues in their households.

Right now students are learning together online with their scheduled courses and teachers. With the current plan, when buildings open, students who need to continue to learn remotely for health issues have to switch to a pre-packaged eLearning system-- stopping their courses somewhere in the middle and losing contact with their teachers and classmates.

In Lakewood, the only way you can continue your education with Lakewood teachers and classes and classmates is by going into the buildings. A lot of parents aren't pleased with what feels very much like having to trade their family's health and safety for a Lakewood education, especially when many surrounding Districts are offering families a choice of home-learning or in-building learning. (Which keeps both groups, and the community, safer.)

The District is assessing the situation.

A petition started by Lakewood parents is going around right now, asking that remote classes taught by Lakewood teachers be continued for students who need it.

Please take a moment to look at the petition and if you agree, sign it and share it.  It concerns the health of our whole community.
