The Lakewood High School Model United Nations Club once again put forth an outstanding performance at the Cleveland Council on World Affairs Model UN Conference. Competing against 14 other schools, including Orange, Rocky River, Western Reserve Academy, Shaker Heights, Mentor, New London, Revere, St. Joseph’s Academy, Andrews-Osborne Academy and Westlake, Lakewood won eight total awards (tied for the most of any school), and won four of the nine Superior Delegation Awards--the highest possible delegation award. Those winning Superior Delegation Awards were the teams of: Michael Yee and Sarah Spice; Fred Grace and Jared Melnyk; Ryan Cleary and Matt Sims; and Stacy Sponsler and Alberto Rodriguez. Winning Excellent Delegation Awards were: Kristian Hila and Zach Urbach; and Brian Brink. Danielle Curran and Matt Majewski were awarded Honorable Mention. Finally, Una Bobinac was awarded the “Gavel” as the single most outstanding delegate in the prestigious and highly competitive Security Council.
Dr. G would like to thank Club President Alex Neidert, Vice President Alberto Rodriguez and Secretary Sabrina Cupach for all their hard work this year. In addition, special thanks to Garfield Social Studies teacher Mr. Joshua Thornsberry for his invaluable assistance in debate/conference preparation. Of special note: Alex Neidert and Grant Colvin, both four year members of our Club, did not participate in the competition because, given their demonstrated mastery of debate and conference procedures, they were asked to co-chair two of the committees.

Finally, Dr. G would like to thank all 27 of our club members for conducting themselves, as always, with enthusiasm, dignity and integrity. It is an honor to work with such dedicated students.

Dr. G----

We certainly celebrate your clear enthusiasm in the success of Lakewood's (our) students!

Your efforts along with so many other teachers emphasize our community's demand for excellence.

I have a feeling that those kids are going onto greater things!
