Peter Diepenbrock's Art Installation At The Lakewood Public Library
I spent a day with Peter and the LPL staff, and it was a marvelous experience watching the installation come together, and talking with Peter about it. Standing ovation to the Lakewood Public Library Board and Nancy Seibert and her Art Committee. ©2011 Lakewood Observer

The artist Peter Diepenbrock in front of the space prepared for the art. -
Peter takes some photos and measurments. -
Shipper's Highway Express arrives with the sculpture. -
I felt like I was at Niagra Falls, everyone taking pictures! Here Gregory and Peter take a shot of the arrival. -

Peter directs them into the area. -
Peter with his college friend, Dave who came along to help. I asked Dave what he thought and he said it was great traveling with Peter and working on this. -
-
The crain is ready. Originally they thought it would have to come over the tree, but the guys from Shipper's Highway Express saw no need. -
The wings are unloaded first. -
-
-
-
And unwrapped. -

Then the body of the piece. -

Ben Burdick from the LPL Staff and a member of the Art Committee, stands with Nancy Siebert, who has served on the LPL Board 9 years and headed the art committee. -
Peter takes a break. As with many things we have all gone through. One of the bolts did not line up perfectly! But a small adjustment and back to finish the project! -
Then Dave and Peter walk around and realize it is off 9". -
Peter stops and explains that they have to mark it, lift it and turn it counter clockwise 1 minute to correct the angle. -
So they mark the base -
-
Peter gets down and corrects it just a little. -
LPL Board Member Paul Dimnick looks on. -
Removed and replaced, the bolts are installed. -
-
-
Then the wrap is removed. -
Notice the dark spot on the piece. It was a little moisture, that disappeared. This means it will change color in weather. -
Peter finishes the installation by polishing the bolts in the base. -
Dave, as Peter shakes the hand of Angelo Paolone, General Foreman from Shipper's Highway Express. -
Installed and inplace, Peter signs the receipt for the delivery of the art from Shipper's Highway Express.

When I stopped back to photograph it at night, I was startled by how good it looks. -
-
-
-
-
And a crowd started to gather as they did at the 9-11 Memorial, and Peter and Dave showed up to speak with people. Many stopped, all loved it, and enjoyed talking with Peter about it. -
Everyone walked up to me, and spoke of how nice it was. While I was there I spoke with at least 20 people. After they voiced their approval, I would say the artist is right there. They would engage in talks of names, what it looks like, how nice it was. Peter finally asked if I was paying these people. I assured him I was not. -

He pauses for one last photograph as he leaves. Once again thank you to the Lakewood Public Library, the Art Committee, The Friends of Lakewood Public Library, and all of those that donated to bring this wonderful piece of public art to Lakewood. After all, Lakewood Is Art! -
