"Loving Basketball In Lakewood" Event 4/24/21
Lakewood residents and leaders gathered on Saturday, April 24 at Madison Park to discuss the future of the basketball court.

The hoops were removed by City Hall after two recent shootings at Madison Park. Citizens organized this event to demonstrate support for the hoops.

Local TV stations were there to cover the event.

Roger Sikes, a leader of the Lakewood Outdoor Basketball Committee, emceed the event.

The crowd included many families.

Some of the attendees, including Council member Tess Neff.

John Storey, Chief of Staff for Mayor George, announced that the hoops will be returned within days.

Council nominee Laura Rodriguez Carbone spoke in support of the hoops. Council members Kepple, Bullock, and Rader were also in attendance.

Mannie, a longtime volunteer who mentors kids at the court, spoke to the crowd.

Luis Gonzalez Jr. of the Guardian Angels offered to support efforts to work with local youth.
