Animal Lovers Enjoy Howling Good Time!

The Citizens' Committee for a Lakewood Animal Shelter (CCLAS) marked the 20th anniversary of the Animal Shelter's opening with the "Hair of the Dog" happy hour fund-raiser on Thursday, May 26th at the Three Birds restaurant on Detroit Avenue. Over 90 guests enjoyed food and drink from the restaurant, as well as a live entertainment from Anne E. Dechant, the 2004 Scene and Free Times musician of the Year.

The event also included a silent auction, with items donated by local residents, businesses and organizations. Among the items available were works of art, numerous food and wine items, event tickets and animal-related products.

The event raised over $4,000, which CCLAS. Since the shelter's opening in 1985, CCLAS has sponsored numerous programs such as a spay/neuter program to reduce the number of unwanted animals born in our community. CCLAS also provides adoption kits to new pet owners that purchase animals from the shelter, and has contributed to capital improvements at the shelter.
