St. Rose Church Offers Free Speaker Series

St. Rose Church is presenting a series of Lenten speakers over the next six weeks. The wide range of topics were selected to appeal to all members of the community. Each of the Monday programs runs from 7:00pm to 8:30pm in the Church hall.

On Feb. 11, Brother Mike Ward, O.F.M. opens the series with discussion of “The Scriptures of Lent”. Fr. Bill Rooney, O.F.M. talks about “Reconciliation” on Feb. 18. He will discuss reconciliation as a sacrament and as a process.

“Immigration” is the subject for Mar. 3. Sr. Kathleen Ryan, S.N.D. will talk about global immigration. Her position is that immigration is not just a political situation in the United States, but a global human situation with Gospel ramifications.

Sr. Margaret Mach, S.C. will talk on March 10 about the area churches that used to be filled for weekend Masses. The head of the Cleveland Diocese Office of Evangelization, St. Mach will describe what can be done about declining church attendance and offer ways to welcome the unchurched neighbors into God’s family.

On March 10, Denise Rembert from the Cleveland HIV/AIDS Office will discuss the recent study from Case-Western Reserve University which demonstrated that our neighborhood has the highest rate of HIV/AIDS in the state. She will help audience members understand the disease, how it is spread, and how the community might address it.

The series closes on March 17 with Paul Lorz, a retired teacher of Economics. His topic is family finance and budgeting. He is concerned about how families are affected by poor financial management. This is one of the foremost causes of family tensions. This will be a practical talk for marriage couples of all ages and those thinking about marriage.

All of the programs are free. Audiences will have the opportunity to meet and ask questions of the speakers. St. Rose Church is located at 11411 Detroit Avenue in Cleveland.
