Egg shells, cucumber peels, orange rind, tea bags, and coffee grounds with filters all make great compost. -
brown matter, like these dead leaves, is key to good compost. -
Layer the brown and green matter at a 50/50 ratio in your compost bin. Leave it uncovered, but always top with fresh brown matter. -
The compost will decrease by about half as it "cooks." Add scraps to a second bin until the first one is ready. -
This compost has just been turned and is almost ready to be spread on the garden.
