Tim McCormack's Bio
The McCormack family immigrated to Cleveland from Ireland in 1850. The Cleveland area has been the McCormack’s home since. Tim McCormack was born in and grew up in Euclid. He attended Holy Cross Grade School and St. Joseph High School (now Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School). Upon graduation from St. Joseph, he attended and graduated from Ohio’s Miami University. Tim then returned home and enrolled in the law school of Cleveland State University.
While finishing law school, Tim became swept up in the movement inspired earlier by President Kennedy that encouraged young people to become involved in public service. He ran for and was elected to the Euclid City Council, in addition to completing his degree.
Three years later, Senator George Voinovich, then an Ohio House Member, vacated his Ohio House seat. Tim ran and won the Ohio House seat in a spirited multi-person election. Two years later, Tim ran and won the State Senate seat which covered northeast Cuyahoga, Lake, and Geauga counties. Tim served two full four-year terms in the Ohio Senate.
Contemplating leaving public life, Tim was approached and ultimately agreed to run for county-wide office in Cuyahoga County. Tim ran for and won the County Auditor position. He was married during that first year of serving as Auditor to Valerie. Four beautiful boys followed over the next six years. Tim’s Auditor’s office was highly creative and became a national award winner in financial matters.
Following three full terms as County Auditor, Tim took on the race for Cuyahoga County Commissioner, which he won. Tim’s two full terms as County Commissioner were notable for highly innovative work in the areas of welfare reform (welfare to work), early childhood education (a national award-winning initiative), and child protective services. His work as Commissioner also resulted in the nation’s highest available financial ratings for the county.
In 2005, Tim was appointed by the Ohio Supreme Court as a Commissioner of The Victims Crimes Division of the Ohio Court of Claims. In this position, he heard appeals of crime victims from throughout Ohio. Currently, Tim is an active practitioner of the law, with a mental health emphasis.
