On Kiwanis- Where Does The Donut Sale Money Go?
Last time I mentioned that donut-sale money is used for community service projects. What are these projects? Let’s look at some that might be funded by the donut-sale projects, and for how much.
The Club’s organizational year has just begun, so we can’t use this year’s numbers, and since the deadline for this article occurs before this year’s sale, we can’t use this year’s profits either. So I will refer to last year’s numbers in both cases.
Profits from last year’s sales were $7874.
And that amount would pay for these contributions made last year:
In accordance with the universal Kiwanis guideline called YCPO (Young Children Priority One), $5,000 was given for the East End Family Room and its early-childhood, family literacy project called “Learn Thru Play.” The money went for rooms, a professional coordinator, furniture, equipment and supplies.
A donation of $1,000 was given to the Lakewood Charitable Assistance Corporation, which delivered two large bags of food including frozen turkeys to 300 to 400 distressed families before Thanksgiving and Christmas. In the spring, large bags of cleaning supplies were delivered.
Kiwanis High programs (Key Club and Key Leader) received $1840, paying for international dues, help for members to attend the convention in Columbus and the national convention, and tuition for Key Club members and other high school students to attend Key Leader training.
That leaves $34 to go into some of the other Kiwanis projects. More on that later.
