Cox Communications awarded $1,000 in Cox Charities grants to two local non-profit organizations as part of its Cox Charities Employee Grant Program, an extension of the company’s philanthropic work in those communities where its employees live and work.

Cox employees have a well-earned reputation for being ambassadors in their communities. This year, employees were given an opportunity to nominate organizations in the Cleveland area that support youth and education for $1,000 grants. Cox representatives recently presented the programs with their donation.

The 2011 Cox Charities Employee Advisory Grant recipients in Lakewood are the Beck Center for the Arts nominated by Daniel Carney and Help to Others nominated by Mark Preston.

An advisory group comprised of Cox employees review and rank each of the nominations submitted.  The purpose of Cox Charities is to award grants and in-kind services to non-profit organizations that focus on children and education in the company’s service areas. The committee evaluates and ranks each application on those key criteria, as well as employee involvement, before final selections are made.

“Our employees personally contribute to Cox Charities and they are proud to use this resource to positively impact our future generations in their own community. The Cox Charities grant program is just one of the many ways Cox remains committed to its employees and the community,” said Paul Cronin, senior vice president and general manager, Cox Communications.

Cox Charities also awarded grants to Leadership for Tomorrow (Parma) nominated by Stacie Schafer and the Optimists Club (Strongsville) nominated by Al Shockey.

Cox launched Cox Charities for the Cleveland area in 2009 with a successful year-long employee campaign that raised more than $15,000. Later this year, Cox will open the grant process up to all organizations in the community that support youth and education initiatives.
