UGIVE.org Empowering Youth for Another Year
UGIVE.org is back to for another year in the Lakewood area. UGIVE.org helps high school students and nonprofit organizations connect with volunteer opportunities throughout the Cleveland area. This past year, UGIVE.org worked with the Lakewood High School’s own Key Club and advisor Kathy Gabriel in a book drive. The Key Club collected 10,000 books for the Torrens Learning Center, the first Library in Kirotshe, Democratic Republic of Congo. For 2012-2013, UGIVE.org is hoping to help with more!
This year, UGIVE.org plans to continue connecting students and nonprofits, but with one new part: early childhood tutoring. We will be helping expand existing tutoring programs for elementary students from kindergarten to 3rd grade. Studies have shown that students who are not able to read at level by 3rd grade are less likely to graduate from high school. UGIVE.org plans to partner with local nonprofit tutoring organizations and schools to help students be successful.
Returning from the past years is our infamous UCREW team. UCREW is a selective program within UGIVE.org that allows high school students to take charge of the social issues in their community and make a positive impact. UCREW is changing focus for the 2012-2013 school year by working with social enterprises. The UCREW team will learn about how social enterprises are the new business on the rise and how to create their own.
Whether you’re a nonprofit, a school or a high school student, UGIVE.org can help you empower the next generation of volunteers in Lakewood!
