Eagle Scout Project At Lakewood Dog Park

Ryan Giermann with his architectural plans outside of Lakewood Dog Park.

I’m Ryan Giermann, a senior at Lakewood High School. I have one last requirement needed to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout: a project to help out my fellow community members. I noticed that the Lakewood Dog Park is a great asset to our city, visited by many people not only from Lakewood, but various neighboring communities as well.

I learned from the Friends of the Lakewood Dog Park (FLDP) that visitors to Lakewood Dog Park have requested a shelter, one that serves park visitors and can be used by the FLDP and the City of Lakewood. My project will fulfill these requests while offering adequate protection against our unpredictable Northeastern Ohio climate.

The shelter will be 10 feet by 10 feet, offering 100 square feet of protection to the visitors of the park. The shelter will be used for FLDP events and will have enough space to comfortably hold 3 benches.

I’ve had a professional architect draft my plans for blueprints and have obtained several quotes for material costs. I’ve met with Mayor Summers, the Director of Public Works and the Architectural Review Board. There’s been great support for this project and everyone is looking forward to its completion.

Construction of the shelter is planned to start during the month of November. The cost for everything needed for the shelter (materials, supplies, tools, etc.) is $1,800. If you or anyone you know are interested in donating money or materials to help your community neighbors visiting the dog park, your contribution will be greatly appreciated. If you would like to help bring this project to fruition, there are also many tasks and several shifts available. Please email me at ryan.giermann@yahoo.com.

Donations are tax deductible, since Friends of the Lakewood Dog Park, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is generously acting as the beneficiary for my project. If you have any questions about donations, please email: topdog@lakewooddogpark.com

I have a list of specified supplies for this project. Dog safety has been considered in selecting materials.

Want to help out on the construction project? Volunteers, especially people with construction skills and cordless tools, are encouraged to join in and help. I will appreciate anyone who’d like to volunteer! Please email me at ryan.giermann@yahoo.com

Construction of the shelter is planned for November 10 and 11, 2012.

I’m sending out donation request letters, along with personally asking local businesses for donations to help raise funds for the project. I really want to get the community involved.

The City of Lakewood, Friends of the Lakewood Dog Park and dog park visitors are very excited to see the completion of the shelter and I believe that this is a great project that all of our community members can work together to see to completion.

I look forward to your support. Thanks!

Ryan Giermann
