Beck Center Offers Adult Drop-In Art Classes

Adults have fun playing improv games at Beck Center.

Children aren’t the only ones who can learn something new and have fun doing it at Beck Center for the Arts. With a variety of arts education offerings for students 18 and up, big “kids” can also enjoy dance, music, theater, and visual arts classes – including a few drop-in classes where adults can test the waters and their skills. Now is the perfect time to try out a class in theater or visual arts with two drop-in classes: Life Drawing and Adult Improv Games. Classes started the week of April 8, but students can drop in any time during the five- or eight-week session. No advance registration is necessary – just show up ready to create!

On Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m., artists explore the human form by drawing from live nude models, both male and female, in the Life Drawing drop-in class at Beck Center which runs Tuesdays now through May 28. Poses vary from quick gesture studies to sustained drawings. Students learn how to shade the figure to create dimension. Students sign in and pay for the class on arrival at Beck Center Customer Service. The cost is $20 per class (students bring drawing paper, pencils and charcoal).

Is comedy more your thing? Then join fellow funny-bone actors on Thursday evenings from 7 to 8:30 p.m., now through May 9 for Adult Improv Games. Stand-up comics explore improv games and team competition led by Aaron Patterson of Something Dada Improvisational Troupe while honing basic improvisational skills. Students may register for each drop-in class at Beck Center Customer Service prior to the start of class. The cost is $20 per drop-in class.

Located at 17801 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood, Beck Center for the Arts is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization that offers professional theater productions, arts education programming in dance, music, theater, visual arts, early childhood, and creative arts therapies for special needs students, and free gallery exhibits featuring local, regional, and international artists.
