Local Designer Toy And Fashion Brand Host Launch Party In Lakewood Gallery
Local Cleveland artists Ben Howard, Rick Sans, and Sergio Andujar II have developed a new brand to produce designer toys and clothing. They spent the majority of the last few years creating various art and customizing designer toys, so they decided to collaborate to create something bigger together. All three have spent time in Japan, so Asian themes and pop art play a significant part in their influences. Other influences derive from local culture, cartoons, comic books, street art, video games and pop culture.
The launch party is not just a celebration of the release of their first figure, but also a showcase of the trio’s various art available for sale. The pop-up store will feature over 1000 pieces of work made by the trio that will be available for purchase, just in time for the holidays. The products will range from t-shirts, canvas art, designer toys, art on vinyl records, screen prints and art on upcycled found objects. The price range for their art is typically $10-$50, with some larger pieces being an exception can go upwards of $400. “We try to keep our art affordable. Not everyone has a budget that has room for purchasing art or collecting designer toys, and we want give folks a chance to get something cool for themselves or great gift for someone else,” says Sans. Music will be provided by live DJ sets from Cleveland’s own EDM (Electronic Dance Music) label 4NPLCY. Giveaways and raffles are planned for through out the event.
The first figure they are producing called “Warilla” is a hybrid of a gorilla and a werewolf. It was designed to be a blank DIY figure, with smooth features to serve as a platform figure for other artists to customize their own designs.
Launch Party runs 6pm - 10pm on December 20th, Pop-up Store runs December 20 – 21 at Breakneck Gallery
