District Hires New LHS Band Director

The Board of Education at its regular meeting on Monday, July 21, approved Clinton Steinbrunner as the new Lakewood High School Band Director, replacing Nathan Harris. Steinbrunner, currently the Assistant High School Band Director and Middle School Band Director for the Benjamin Logan Local Schools in Bellefontaine, will start July 22 to begin preparing for marching band camp on Aug. 4.

More than 50 candidates applied for the position that Steinbrunner has earned. He went through an intensive interview process that included input from the high school's other music directors.

"This young man's talents rose to the top," said Superintendent Jeff Patterson.

Steinbrunner, who holds a Bachelor of Music Education, Magna Cum Laude, from The College of Wooster, has been with the Benjamin Logan Local Schools since 2011. Prior to that he served as substitute music teacher for Mercer County Educational Services and taught music at Castleknock College in Dublin, Ireland.

Steinbrunner has significant experience leading summer camps and assisting with summer band camp clinics, including serving as Assistant Camp Director for the Wooster Music Camp.

At Lakewood High, Steinbrunner will be responsible for leading Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble as well as the extracurricular ensembles of Jazz Band, Jazz Workshop and the Lakewood Ranger Marching Band.

Outside of his teaching, Steinbrunner is a member of the Columbus Symphony Chorus and a tenor section leader in the Worthington United Methodist Church Choir.

Steinbrunner is eager to begin his work in Lakewood.

"All teachers want to work in a district with motivated students, passionate colleagues and a supportive community and administration,” Steinbrunner said. “I am thrilled to be joining the staff at Lakewood, knowing that the school has a rich history in each of these areas and a long standing appreciation for the arts."
