Madison Avenue Resurfacing, Traffic Signalization Project Set To Begin

The $4.9 million resurfacing and traffic signalization project on Madison Avenue is expected to begin by the end of this September.

The city’s Planning and Development Department is hosting a community meeting on August 19 to discuss the project details.

Resurfacing will begin on the west end of the 2.6-mile stretch of Madison Avenue, and work east. The project is expected to take approximately 18 months.

“Residents in Lakewood expect a certain level of high-quality development in the city,” said Jason Russell, the city’s project specialist. “We’re looking to add to the vibrancy of Madison Avenue with this infrastructure project to provide the spark.”

As a part of that effort, the city’s Department of Planning and Development has also set aside $300,000 to assist property owners through the City’s Storefront Renovation Program.

The city is hosting a community meeting in the cafeteria at Harding Middle School at 7 p.m. August 19. City officials will be on hand to answer questions and provide information about city programs to assist property owners.
