An Evening All About Chocolate

Rich, smooth, satisfying, ahhhh. Decadent and delectable chocolate. On Thursday, October 23, from 6-9 p.m., throngs of people will fill the sidewalks along Detroit Avenue from Olivewood to Arthur in search of chocolate when the Downtown Lakewood Business Alliance presents the 6th annual Chocolate Walk.
The tour starts when the doors to Lakewood Center North's main lobby open for check-in from 6-7 p.m. There you'll receive your wristband, map, and bag. Each bag will already contain a treat from First Federal of Lakewood--a Sweet Designs chocolate bar--in and of itself a reward. Two of the general admission bags and one of the VIP bags will contain a very special bar wrapped in gold foil containing a golden ticket which can be exchanged during the Grand Finale for a $25 Visa Gift Card. Use it for future shopping at any of the downtown businesses. On display at check-in and at the Grand Finale are raffle baskets for which you’ll be able to buy tickets, $1 each or 6 for $5. Just drop in your ticket for a chance to win the item of your choice.
Guided by maps, signs and festive bows decorating participating merchants, you’ll take to the streets to visit the Sweet Stops, collecting something chocolate at each location. Part of the adventure is getting into a business you’ve never visited before—like Chinor, the haute couture fashion designer, new to Lakewood since last year’s walk.
Keep a sharp eye out on your walk so you can spot the golden eggs. A dozen golden eggs are scattered through the businesses. Record on your map the number of the egg next to the shop in which you saw it. Those who correctly mark them all will receive an extra raffle ticket at the Grand Finale. The Grand Finale, sponsored by First Federal of Lakewood in their newly-renovated lobby is open from 8-9 p.m. and will feature guitarist Cheryl Fitiak, champagne and, of course, more chocolate!
Lakewood’s newest downtown business, Bacchanalia at 14717 Detroit, will host the VIP Party from 5:30–6:15 p.m. There you’ll receive private check-in, a VIP nametag, one drink concocted especially for the occasion, a choice appetizer, and the privilege of observing a special demo courtesy of Campbell’s Sweets, title sponsor of the evening.
