Twins Taste A Pickle

Upon entering the cozy confines of the Cleveland Pickle Gourmet Sub Shop on Detroit Road, we were greeted by simple, charming decor. The sandwich selection is definitely thought-provoking and it inspired our culinary curiosity.

A sign behind the counter admonishes "We know you like it your way, but our way is better. No substitutions, please." Now, this sign precipitated a feeling of trepidation in your timid taste-budded Taster Twins, particularly when the ingredients of the Kardiac Kid sandwich includes peanut butter, honey, bananas, Nutella, caramelized bacon, and pickles! Naturally, we asked the counter attendant about the posted message. She replied that they carefully assemble ingredients for a unique taste with specific combinations to create the flavor profile that they have designed. In other words, they don't like to mess with success since many of their creations have won awards.

Nonetheless, the kind woman taking our order took pity on us and agreed to serve the bacon and pickles on the side. We must say, the first four listed ingredients made for a scrumptious combination of sweetness and richness. When we gingerly added the pickles and bacon, it was very interesting and surprisingly not unpleasant. We also tried the Clevelander and a delicious Asian meatball sandwich called the Payne Avenue Panini, which was absolutely delicious with a fantastic carrot slaw on flavorful meatballs. The crunchy slaw perfectly complemented the warm, savory meatballs on the toasted roll. Also, the sandwiches are generous with their ingredients and their sizes, commensurate with the prices.

When was the last time you had a gourmet deviled egg? At Cleveland Pickle, you can try one made with their own pickle relish. They offer a delectable chicken paprikash soup and out-of-the-ordinary chips, and bottled soft drinks to accompany their subs.

We heard that Cleveland Pickle often has a line out the door of people eager to fulfill their cravings for the unique and different sandwich concoctions. With the Lakewood shop following a Downtown location, we have easy access to distinctive sandwiches with unusual combinations of quality ingredients. The chef's creations are original and served proudly with terrific pickles.
