Lakewood Chamber Announces "Why I Love Lakewood" Essay Contest Winner

Clement Bouvier, a fourth grader at Lincoln Elementary School, is the winner of the 2014 “Why I Love Lakewood” Fourth Grade Essay Contest. Clem’s essay was chosen from 123 heartfelt essays submitted by Lakewood 4th graders. In addition to winning a $100 cash prize, Clem rode in the Light Up Lakewood parade in a car provided by Steve Barry Buick and helped “flip the switch” with Santa and Mayor Summers to turn on the lights in Downtown Lakewood as part of the Light Up Lakewood festivities on December 6th. Congratulations, Clem!

Why I Love Lakewood
by Clement Bouvier

My dad and I talk a lot about what I want to be when I grow up. Right now I want to be a computer engineer, a piano player or a teacher and I can learn about all of these things in Lakewood.

My favorite place is the Lakewood Library because I can read as many books as I want to. I can find out about anything there. I also love my school, Lincoln Elementary, where I have music class and sing in the Lincoln Singers. I take piano lessons at Educators Music—a fun place with nice people. But I think I do a lot of learning because there are things that happen in Lakewood that don’t happen anywhere else.

This summer I went to Meet the Trucks at Lakewood Park and I got to walk inside a fire truck, a police wagon, a front loader and a snow plow. In summer I read twenty-one books for the Library’s summer reading program. I learn a lot just by walking down Detroit Avenue and seeing different kinds of churches and eating in restaurants with food from all over the world. I learn a lot in Lakewood because it’s unique and has great people and what I know now is that I want to live the rest of my life here.
