Twins In The Place To Be

As our readers may already know, we Taster Twins are breakfast people. We have "morning person" personalities (much to the dismay of our long-suffering husbands) and we are fans of all things breakfast. We decided to indulge our appetites and met at the aptly named The Place to Be on Warren Road, just at the corner of Detroit Road for an early lunch.

First of all, we were welcomed to the restaurant with smiles and a warm familiarity. We were seated by a cheerful hostess and a pleasant server waited on us immediately. Since we were in an indulgent mood, we ordered the amazing corned beef hash with not two, but three, eggs! This corned beef hash is not the canned cubes of salty mush which with many of you may be familiar. It is tantalizing slices of fresh tasting corned beef mixed in with perfectly cooked potato slices. The buttery texture of the potatoes was pure heaven--so delicious and comforting. We also had a create-your-own omelet with gyro meat, tomatoes, mushrooms, and cheese. The choices were practically infinite and when our customized one arrived, it was made exactly to specifications, accompanied by a generous pile of those aforementioned heavenly potatoes.

While The Place to Be may not be a gourmet eatery, it does not pretend to be. The gracious welcome is like stopping in to a friend's place to have a bite. Home-cooking is the order of the day and sometimes, you don't want fussy or fancy--you just want your belly filled in a comfortable atmosphere.

Like many Lakewood establishments, The Place to Be is small. Recently painted with new artwork on the walls, the look is refreshed without being overly designed. The warm staff is efficient and they always seem happy to see the various regulars and new customers alike. The fare is simple, but they do it well, with a homespun touch in a welcoming environment. Neighborhood restaurants like The Place to Be succeed because they keep the coffee cups filled, the customers happy, and no one leaves hungry.
