Terrific Technology For Kids: STEM Programs at the Library

Jr. Video Game Creation
For students in first through third grade
Tuesday, December 1, 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. in the Main Library Multipurpose Room.
Aspiring video game designers or just anyone who wants to learn more about programming will not want to miss this workshop! Get started making your own video games with Scratch, a free visual programming language from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Labs that you can use at home long after the class is over. Scratch is a great program for all ages, and is especially easy for young kids to learn with a little instruction and a lot of hands-on time. You’ll be making your first video game in no time! Computers are provided by us, but please bring a flash drive to save your game so you can continue creating at home or just show off to your friends.

Intro to Arduino
For students in fourth through eighth grade
Wednesday, December 2, 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. in the Main Library Multipurpose Room.
If you have ever wanted to create a device to control the world around you, now you can – for free – at the Library!  Learn how to program an Arduino® microcontroller, create circuits and use a breadboard in this introductory class. Arduino® hardware can be easily programmed to make robots, motion detectors, light displays, programmable clothes, bubble machines, and remote controlled vehicle (just to name a few)! All materials will be provided for this workshop.

Both programs are brought to you by the Lakewood Public Library with funding by the Cox Community Grant. Registration is required.
