Discover Beneath Cleveland

William Krejci, 39, was born and raised in Avon Lake Ohio. He is a talented musician, bartender and park ranger at Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial in Put-In-Bay. His curiosity and interest in history led him to investigate libraries and newspapers looking for the names of the two sailors buried somewhere in Avon Lake Shore Cemetery under the marker, “Unknown Seaman.”

His success in solving mysteries is noticeable in all three of his mystery novels, which take place in Northeast Ohio. No wonder, the hero of all these novels is Jack Sullivan, a historian from Ohio.

Krejci’s interest in history and learning more about his surroundings made him very successful in writing. His latest book, titled “Buried Beneath Cleveland” illustrates various maps of cemeteries that are located under stores, homes, and gas stations in Cuyahoga County.

During the 1800's, veterans were buried randomly in cemeteries in greater Cleveland. Towards the end of this period, due to the rapid growth of the city, these cemeteries were relocated. Unfortunately, many of them did not make it and were left behind.

It’s a very interesting subject to discuss with our visitor William Krejci. He will be at the Main Library Auditorium on Thursday, April 21 at 7 p.m. to answer all your questions and satisfy your curiosity.
