Children’s Games And Crafts 100 Years Ago

Lincoln Logs were invented in 1916 but are still a popular pastime with children today.

Give your kids a break from today’s technology and come to Lakewood Public Library for some good old-fashioned fun and games. In celebration of the Library’s 100th birthday this spring the Main Library presents two back-to-basics programs for students in first through fifth grade – Games Children Played 100 Years Ago and Crafts Children Created 100 Years Ago.

Games children played 100 years ago were very different from the games kids play today. Students will have fun learning some “new” old games on Wednesday, May 11 from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room at the Main Library. Participants will play a variety of group games and engage in individual activities that youngsters enjoyed at the turn of the 20th century. No batteries necessary!

Then kids can get creative and make a craft that children used to pass the time 100 years ago. On Thursday, May 12 from 4 to 5 p.m. students will use their imaginations and create their own fun while making take-home crafts in the Main Library Activity Room.

Space is limited and registration is required for both programs. To register or to learn more about other 100th birthday programs and activities, stop by the Children’s & Youth Services desk at the Main Library, call (216) 226-8275, ext. 140 or register online at www.lakewoodpubliclibrary.org/youth.
