Lakewood 10-U Fast Pitch Girls Win First Game

Victory Celebration!

The Emerald Necklace Girls Fastpitch Association is underway and 11 young ladies have worked extremely hard to represent the 10-U Lakewood Rangers travel team. Since last fall the girls have participated in weekly practices learning a new sport for most of the roster. These girls and their parents have dedicated the time and effort for the team to be successful not only now but long into their sports careers. Some had played baseball in the past, however, facing a fastpitch softball pitcher throwing 40 mph is an entirely new experience.

Led by coaches Kelly Carroll and Katie Potoczak, the girls' hard work paid off this past Tuesday night as they put on a great performance under the lights at Harding Middle School. Paced by great pitching and some timely hitting, the girls were able to notch their first victory in 6 tries over Amherst 17-7.

The Rangers pride themselves in playing the game the way it is meant to be played with good fundamentals, smart baserunning, and hustle no matter the outcome. Despite some early season jitters the girls maintain a positive attitude that shows on and off the field and paid dividends against Amherst.

Each girl brings a team-first attitude to the game which is reflected in the creative team spirit throughout the game. If you see some of these girls around town wearing the familiar Purple and Gold Rangers' colors, be sure to congratulate them on their efforts and future success.
