Ward Comix #1

I'm pretty new at writing reviews of comics, so forgive me if this is not very well done. I'm trying. So, this is the latest from local artist Nathan Ward, whose work you may have seen on flyers, album covers, or comics in publications like Scene Magazine or Stitches In My Head.

The comic book itself itself actually comprises several comics, with the main feature (or at least the longest one) being titled "Inside Cracks And Folds." I really can't tell the plot of this one, as there's just so many things going on in it, but there seems to be some concern about people getting sucked into the ground, and a mysterious radio channel, K7XP. The final page promises that the story will be continued, so I hope to see that continuation. If I've gotten any of this wrong, please feel free to write in and correct me.

Other comics within the book include a single page narrative entitled "A Kid Gone Crazy Winter," which follows the title character as he puzzles over his synthesizers and eats a sandwich, "Dizygosis," about the perils of having a twin, and "Afterschool," which begins with two youths trespassing in what looks to be a junkyard, and quickly takes a turn for the worse.

The whole book is full of bizarre tales in Mr. Ward's wonderful art style, with coloring that seems bold but simultaneously muted. I don't know, is that a thing art people say? Either way, I enjoyed this book quite a bit, and you will too. It will soon be available at www.nwardcomics.com, so you should buy yourself a copy, and purchase the previous comics as well for even more enjoyment. One more time, that's www.nwardcomics.com.
