Professional and amateur photographers to submit artwork on July 9, 2016

Beck Center for the Arts is proud to present Beck Focus, the organization’s first annual juried photography competition July 15 – August 21, 2016 in the Jean Bulicek Galleria. Professional and amateur photographers of all ages are asked to submit their artwork and completed entry forms on Saturday, July 9 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Beck Center. Entry forms, fees, and complete rules are available online at beckcenter.org and Customer Service.

Beck Focus jurors include Victoria Stanbridge of Victoria Stanbridge Photography, and Dr. Marcello Mellino, owner of Images Gallery. Both professional and amateur categories include nature, portraits, travel, and lens-based digital art. The competition will feature 11 possible opportunities totaling $750 in awards. “Best of Show” and “Best of Category” will be awarded for both amateur and professional divisions, as well as each of the four categories. A “Jurors’ Choice Youth Award” will be awarded to a participant 16 and under.

“Photography has become one of the most important forms of creative self-expression in modern times,” remarked Darrelle Anne Centuori, Associate Director of Visual Arts Education. “Beck Center wants to give local photographers a chance to print and show their work in real life beyond social media, and to enjoy some friendly competition.” Selected entries will be notified by telephone by Wednesday, July 13. Non-selected work must be collected on Thursday, July 14 from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. Beck Center is not responsible for uncollected items.

An Opening Reception and Awards Ceremony will take place Friday, July 15 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. This exhibition will coincide with Beck Center’s production of "Billy Elliot the Musical," winner of 10 Tony Awards® including Best Musical. The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public. Tickets for "Billy Elliot the Musical" may be purchased in advance or at Customer Service desk depending on availability.
