Free Wellness Workshops Offered At Lakewood Public Library

All the world is full of suffering. It is also full of overcoming. - Helen Keller

Everyone alive is dealing with a malady, large or small. However, help is available to promote healing and encourage wellness. This summer, Lakewood Public Library and The Gathering Place are offering two workshops to help people discover tools that can ease their way.

On Wednesday, July 20 at 7 p.m. in the Main Library Auditorium, Susan Marinac will lead an experiential workshop on the importance of gratitude in promoting happiness, health and physical well-being. A clinical social worker and board certified music therapist, Marinac often incorporates creative arts into her practice.

On Wednesday, August 31 at 7 p.m. in the Main Library First Floor Multipurpose Room, Erin Rafter will lead participants through the meditative technique of walking the labyrinth. Since ancient times, exploring mazes has been a way to bring quiet and stillness to the mind and body. Walking the labyrinth clears the mind and gives insight to people in transition. A licensed psychologist, Rafter has experience working with children and adults in grief and loss, pediatric palliative care and hospice, and family therapy.

Both women are employees of The Gathering Place, which offers free programs and services that address the emotional, physical, spiritual and social needs of those touched by cancer. The organization provides support to individuals diagnosed and their family members and friends at any point during treatment. Learn more at touchedbycancer.org. No registration is required for the Library programs on July 20 and August 30.
