Eagles Three-Peat Bid Includes ESPN, Browns Stadium Appearances

Last year St. Edward defied expectations by winning a second straight state football title under first year coach Tom Lombardo. The Eagles will begin their title defense at First Federal Lakewood Stadium on Saturday, August 27th. The game, which will kick off at noon, will be broadcast by ESPN to a national audience. Their opponent will be Pine-Richland High School from suburban Pittsburgh. The Rams feature junior quarterback Phil Jurkovec, widely considered one the ten best quarterbacks in the nation in his class.

The Eagles defense has looked strong in the offseason, including in a recent scrimmage against Canton McKinley High School. They kept the speedy Bulldogs in check on a warm, sunny morning in Lakewood. The offense lagged the defense, which is often the case in high school scrimmages. However, the St. Edward offensive line was big and strong, and should open some nice running holes this season.

Last week St. Ignatius announced that this year’s “Holy War” game will be moved from Parma’s Byers Field to First Energy Stadium in downtown Cleveland. Ignatius, which is the home team for this game, wanted to give more fans the chance to see annually sold-out game. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 29th. Tickets are available online for $10.
