Comics Crash Course For Kids

The Lakewood Public Library is hosting a brief series aimed at helping young aspiring comic creators to focus their ideas and create a short comic in four simple stages. The program will encompass conceptualization, character creation, development of both written and visual narrative, as well as ideas about self-publishing and other ways to get their work out there. In four weeks we will work through each stage while creating our comic strips. Kids who are inspired by their favorite webcomic, syndicated comic strip, comic book or graphic novel are encouraged to join up and try their hand at writing and drawing their own comic.

All skill levels are welcome; even stick figures can make a story shine! (Diary of a Wimpy kid, anyone?)

All completed works will be collected and printed as a newspaper-style “funny page” to be sent home with each participant as well as being displayed in The Library’s Children’s & Youth Services area and maybe more!

Those interested should note that they must be able to attend all four sessions in order to complete the project.

This program will be hosted at the Main Library on Thursdays from 4 to 5 p.m. from December 8 through December 29. Fifth through eighth graders interested in participating can register by calling 216-226-8275 ext. 140 or by logging on to lakewoodpubliclibrary.org.
