Lakewood Seniors are Walking For Fitness

This summer, why not take advantage of the weather and take some steps toward physical fitness? Beginning Thursday, August 3, 2017, the Lakewood Division of Aging, along with all the other westside senior centers will be partnering with CCF/St. John Medical Center to offer the 2017 Walking Challenge. This six-week program will challenge participants to get up and get moving. The Lakewood Division of Aging will be taking a bus on Thursday, August 3rd to the St. John campus in Westlake for an initial weigh-in, along with blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol testing, along with a pep talk. Participants will also receive a pedometer to track their progress.

After the initial assessment, it’s time to get moving! The Division of Aging offers numerous exercise opportunities including walking at Lakewood Park on Mondays, and walking at Great Northern Mall on Fridays. Additionally, we have a chair exercise class on Mondays and Tai Chi and Jazzercise on Fridays. On top of these things, people could also just walk around the block. The possibilities are endless. On Thursday, September 14th, we will return to St. John for a reassessment. Prizes will be awarded to those people who have taken the most steps, as well as for those who have lost the most weight, or have come down the most in the other assessments.

Any and all Lakewood residents over the age of 60 are encouraged to participate in this fun and worthwhile activity. The bus will be leaving the Lawther Center at 10:15 a.m. on August 3rd, and we would like to have a bus load of health-minded people to come along with us. We ask that people sign up with us ahead of time. Please call the Lakewood Activities Office at 216-529-5005 with any questions, or to register.
