Why I Support Meghan George For Lakewood City Council

I am in support of Meghan F. George for Lakewood City Council.

This is for a number of reasons. First and foremost, Meghan is one of the most honest and trustworthy people I know. We need people in office who have integrity and are willing to put the public good ahead of personal gain. We may not always agree on every single issue, but truth and transparency in our elected officials supersedes any policy disagreement we may have.

Meghan believes in safety first. She understands the basic function of local government is to provide for the safety of its residents. To do this our safety forces need training, resources, and support. For example; the Lakewood Police firing range is out of service. Meghan pledges to support funding to return this essential facility back to working order. Her sponsorship of issues such as this has led to her endorsement by the hard-working safety forces of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 25 and Lakewood Association of Firefighters Local 382.

I want Lakewood to continue to be a destination for people of all ages, backgrounds, lifestyles, and values. Providing services, attracting homebuyers, and growing existing businesses is a delicate undertaking; especially while keeping taxes in line. Meghan’s professional background in the private sector gives her real-world experience in balancing all of these pieces.

Meghan, as a lifelong Lakewood resident, recognizes the importance of maintaining Lakewood’s century old house stock. This entails strict, but fair, code enforcement. As a Lakewood homeowner, she fully understands how the overall condition of our city impacts the value of individual homes.

Meghan appreciates Lakewood history. Coincidentally her childhood home on Rosalie Avenue was the home to Margaret Manor Butler, founder of the Lakewood Historical Society. Understanding Lakewod history provides context to how city policies were formed, as well as guides an elected official’s perspective on how to best refine, change or retain those policies.
