At any given moment, screenwriter Dix Steele (Humphrey Bogart) can explode into a rage. So far he’s been given a pass, but when a woman last known to be in his apartment is murdered, suspicion falls upon him. Neighbor Laurel Gray (Gloria Grahame) saw her leave Dix’s place alone and tells police. Barbara Steffek-Hill presents a series of classic and contemporary films from her personal favorites.

Moustache Yourself is a gypsy jazz and swing band based in Northeast Ohio. Band members (nearly all of whom wear moustaches, a staple in the gypsy jazz lifestyle), are on a mission to incorporate the entire history of gypsy jazz into an eclectic mix of songs ranging from the style’s beginnings to present day.

Documentary - "Resilience: the Biology of Stress & the Science of Hope" (2016)

Toxic stress can physically change the human body; it’s the result of abuse or neglect during childhood. This stress puts children at greater risk of disease, prison time, becoming homeless or even an early death. Resilience features those who are beginning to fight back to protect children from the effects of toxic stress. Experts Jim Sporleder and Dr. Nadine Harris demonstrate the facts of trauma and stress and offer solutions to this epidemic. We are joined by a representative from Recovery Resources to discuss the facts of mental health.

Georgia Tann, nationally lauded for arranging adoptions out of her children’s home in Memphis, Tennessee, was actually a baby seller who terrorized poor, often unwed mothers by stealing their children and selling them to wealthy clients. Books will be available for sale and signing at this event.

Readings by Juliet Cook, Diane Ferri and Ryan Pearl

Juliet Cook is the author of numerous poetry chapbooks including "Red Demolition, Poisonous Beauty Skull Lollipop" and the individual full-length poetry book "Horrific Confection." Diane Vogel Ferri is a teacher, writer, and the author of the poetry chapbook, "Liquid Rubies", and the novel "The Desire Path." Ryan Pearl has been active in the Cleveland literary community since 2010. His work has appeared in "The City Poetry, Brandt 21" the GTK Creative Journal.

Author Event - "Tunnel to Hell: The Lake Erie Tunnel Disasters - Tales of Heroism and Tragedy" by Scott MacGregor

The Lake Erie Water cribs and tunnels provided Cleveland’s water supply and also provided jobs for local construction workers. This graphic novel tells the story of the harrowing experiences suffered by Irish and European immigrants while building water tunnels under Lake Erie. African-American inventor Garrett A. Morgan is the man behind the heroic rescue of trapped water tunnel workers. Books will be available for sale and signing at this event.
