Supplies 4 Success Kicks Off 8th Year Of Collecting For Students In Need

Supplies 4 Success, a committee of the Lakewood Area Collaborative, has kicked off this summer's school supply collection drive. Started in 2011, S4S has been instrumental in getting needed school supplies to Lakewood students in financial need. The committee's goal is to have a supply closet in each of our schools for guidance counselors and teachers to access throughout the school year.

Chair Karen Lee says, "We have been so very lucky to be in such a giving community. Thousands of students have been helped since the inception of the program." Students from grades K-12 are able to go to their guidance office and receive new supplies - from a pack of pencils to a fully stuffed backpack, depending on their need.

This year's collection runs through September with the bulk of supplies being sorted and distributed to schools on Monday, August 13. Suggested supplies can be dropped off at any the following local businesses: Pet's General, Lakewood Hardware, Nature's Oasis, The Beck Center, Breadsmith, The Root, Sweet Designs, First Federal Bank, KB Confections, Rebound Physical Therapy/Urgent Care, The Coffee Pot, Becks/Foster Pools and the Lakewood Recreation Department (year round).  Financial donations can be made through the Lakewood Foundation at thelakewoodfoundation.org or The Lakewood Foundation, 16024 Madison Ave., Lakewood, OH 44107 (write S4S in the subject line).

S4S is thrilled to have such long-time support from other local groups: The Lakewood Foundation, Lakewood Community Service Center (LCSC), Lakewood Charitable Assistance Corporation (LCSC), Help to Others (H20), Trinity Lakewood Community Organization (TLCO), Gifts from Grandma, Hospice of the Western Reserve and Cox Communication as well as many of our local churches and Girl Scout troops.
