Summer Still In Swing This Weekend

The summer isn’t over yet! Throughout this weekend there are a few outdoor events going on in Lakewood that deserve one last special mention. Spend time with friends, make a date with your favorite person, take the kids out, arrange for a babysitter. No matter who you are, or which event you attend, you’ll be glad you did.

Friday night, September 10, from 6 to 10 pm Lakewood Christian Service Center will hold its annual fundraising event. LCSC has had a 42% increase in the total number of households coming in for emergency food over this time last year. With the help of creative partnerships you can come out to support a worthy cause while having an enjoyable experience. This event will take place at the community garden created for LCSC clients at Madison Park. Chef Jonathan Sawyer of Greenhouse Tavern will prepare the evening’s menu using some of the produce grown by the LCSC community gardeners and will be assisted by Lakewood High School Culinary Arts students. There will be live music by Kristine Jackson and KJ Blues, as well as an auction of garden benches created by local artists from 100% recycled materials. Tickets are $50 (with $20 of that tax deductible) and can still be purchased by calling 216-226-6466 or online at www.lcsclakewood.org.

Saturday, September 11, 11 am to 5 pm the 23rd annual Lakewood Community Festival is free with something for everyone to enjoy. The purpose of this event is simple. Celebrate and bring the community together in our backyard park, Madison Park. The flag raising ceremony kicks off the event at 11 am. Local churches, organizations, and restaurants will offer for sale a range of foods and beverages during the full line up of live musical performances. See the festival advertisement on Page 11 for a detailed listing and schedule of activities and entertainment.

On Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon the Lakewood Historical Society will host its 10th biennial “Come Home To Lakewood” Patron Party and Home and Garden Tour. The house tour weekend festivities are the Society’s largest fundraiser. This year’s Patron Party house is an elegant brick Tudor with spectacular lake views. This stunning private residence is not on Sunday’s tour. Tickets are $75 and you can expect to have a most enjoyable experience complete with fine food, drinks, and live music. Patron Party ticket purchase includes a Sunday House Tour ticket valued at $15 and a portion of your purchase is tax-deductible.

Sunday’s Home and Garden Tour features six historically or architecturally significant homes throughout Lakewood and the restored Nicholson House. This biennial home & garden tour is highly anticipated by Northeast Ohioan’s from all over. At only $15 per ticket there is no better way to spend a Sunday afternoon. See the Tour advertisement on Page 9 for pictures of the private residences on the tour. Patron Party tickets can be purchased online at www.lakewoodmuseumstore.com until noon on Saturday. Advance $15 Sunday tour tickets can also be bought online or from several local outlets along Detroit Ave. Outlet locations are listed on the website or by calling 216-221-7343. Day-of-tour tickets may be available on Sunday starting at 1pm at The Nicholson House for $20.
