Doug Wood

On Sunday, June 1 at 2:00 p.m., Doug Wood brings his innovative instrumental music to the Lakewood Public Library auditorium. Wood combines folk, jazz and acoustic rock to create his own original sound.

Raised in Denver, Colorado Wood started playing the guitar at the age of twelve. He played in the John Carroll jazz band in college and started writing his own instrumental compositions. After college, Wood and bass player Darren Frate started the instrumental folk/rock/jazz fusion group Watts Gnu. From 1991-1997 Watts Gnu played colleges and concert venues along the East Coast and throughout the Midwest. Their CD Kindred Spirit played on NPR and jazz stations across the country.

In 1999 Wood started his solo career and has released three CDs, I Am Kiroc, Solace and his newest Dreamcatcher. All three have received airplay from commercial and college radio stations. Voted by campuses nationwide as the "Best Instrumentalist" (CampusAwards.com) and "2005 Best Music Performance" runner-up (Campus Activities Magazine), Wood has earned a reputation as one of the premier college performers in the country.

Wood’s program at Lakewood Public Library will showcase his instrumental compositions intermingled with humorous tales of the road. The free program starts at 2:00 in the library auditorium and is part of the Sunday with the Friends series sponsored by the Friends of Lakewood Public Library
