Two dear friends of mine ran into some financial difficulties and asked for my help. They had to relocate, but their new residence did not allow pets. I understood their dilemma and agreed to care for their two cats.

The St. Edward High School theatre company, The Edwardian Players, have undertaken the quest of producing the brilliant work of Dale Wasserman, “Man of La Mancha.”

On Tuesday February 13th, 2007, Mayor Tom George was on hand at Lakewood Senior Health Campus (formerly the Aristocrat Lakewood). The mayor presented John T. O'Neill, President of O'Neill Management, with a proclamation from the city expressing their gratitude and appreciation for support and improvements made to the facility, as it will have a positive impact on the
entire city of Lakewood.

The purpose of the Lakewood Youth Master Plan is to provide the community with the opportunity to come together to create a strategic plan that focuses on four areas: Health & Safety, Families, Education and Recreation. The Youth Master Plan will be used
by the city, schools & youth-servicing organizations to plan for programs and
services for youth and their families.

Can you have a block party in the middle of winter? Is it in the “rule book?” The folks on Forest Cliff Drive sure think so. Dee Dee McNamee Gold organized this Second Non-Annual Heartburn Cook-off, and Tall Tale Story Telling party. Don and Ann Marie Chick hosted the event.

Congratulations to the Lakewood Observer's very own photographer, Ivor Karabatkovic, on receiving two Gold Key awards in the prestigious Scholastic Arts & Writing contest. He was awarded the Gold Key for his Photography Portfolio and for this shot of their family rat terrier Daili. His work will be displayed at the Cleveland Institute of Art's Reinberger Gallery from January 14th through February 3rd. Ivor's portfolio and picture will travel to New York City for national judging. A $10,000 cash prize will be awarded to two photographers in the competition. Ivor's portfolio is the only one traveling to New York City from Lakewood High School, and we wish him luck as he represents Lakewood City Schools and our community in this competition.

On January 16, 2007, at the Winking Lizard in Lakewood, four leading Lakewood area health, fitness and personal care professionals will deliver the seminar, ‘How to Make 2007 Your Best Year Ever,’ as a community awareness and fundraising event for the American Cancer Society.

Artist in Residence, Ernie Krivda and his Jazz Quartet will be performing Tuesday, January 16 in the L Room at 7:30pm. Admission is $3.00 for adults, $2.00 for students, and $1.00 for seniors. Bonnie Fencl owner of the Carabel Beauty Salon & Store has been included in the eight member Editorial Board of Beauty Store Business Magazine. "My education at a Lakewood beauty school, working at various salons and then becoming a salon owner laid the foundation for this new opportunity.” Beauty Store Business Magazine has over 16,000 subscribers nationwide. The periodical carries articles about beauty stores, distributors, and product companies. "I think the location of my store on the Northcoast, the diversity of Lakewood’s people, our weather, and economic range of the clients gives me a background that will allow meaningful input to the editor of the magazine.”

Wendy Rice-Isaacs, office administrator for the Cleveland and Akron offices of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP, was named president-elect of the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA). ALA is an international organization with more than 10,000 members that provides support, high-quality education and services to professionals involved in the management of law firms, corporate legal departments and government legal agencies.

Jennifer Gerres and David Lay have announced their engagement, and plan to marry in June 2008.
