Bloo and Cox Take Over Lakewood YMCA


This past Friday, Cox made a big SPLASH at the Lakewood YMCA! Cox and the Cartoon Network hosted a free Dive-In Movie at the Y for members of the community. Kids splashed around and watched a Cartoon Network reel before Bloo came out for a visit and hugs. There were giveaways and fun for all. Evan and Alex (pictured left) each won a prize from Cox and Cartoon Network that included a Bloo backpack, notepad, water bottle and three months of Cox High Speed Internet service.

Lakewood Student is Named Young Scholar at Denison

Denison University junior Taylor Trimarchi, son of Marla Samko of Lakewood,
has been selected as a Young Scholar. His project, titled "Cinema Meets Theater," will be
advised by Associate Professor David Bussan. Trimarchi, a 2005 graduate of Lakewood High School, is a cinema major at Denison.

In honor of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, Lakewood/Rocky River Jazzercise instructor Karen Killbane is offering all new customers a free trial week anytime from May 1 -15.National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, sponsored by the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, is an observance held every May. It is designed to make the public aware of the benefits of a lifelong program of regular moderate physical activity as prescribed by the Surgeon General's Report on Physical Activity and Health.

Congratulations Ivor!

Congratulations to the Lakewood Observer's very own photographer, Ivor Karabatkovic, on receiving two Gold Key awards in the prestigious Scholastic Arts & Writing contest. He was awarded the Gold Key for his Photography Portfolio and for this shot of their family rat terrier Daili. His work will be displayed at the Cleveland Institute of Art's Reinberger Gallery from January 14th through February 3rd. Ivor's portfolio and picture will travel to New York City for national judging. A $10,000 cash prize will be awarded to two photographers in the competition. Ivor's portfolio is the only one traveling to New York City from Lakewood High School, and we wish him luck as he represents Lakewood City Schools and our community in this competition.
