Hospice of the Western Reserve Volunteer Training Series

Are you looking for a way to help individuals in your community? We serve palliative and hospice care patients and families wherever they call home and have a wide range of volunteer opportunities to fit your talents, interests, and schedule. There are many virtual and face-to-face opportunities available at Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake, the Medina Inpatient Unit and Life’s Treasures Thrift Shop in Medina, and the David Simpson Hospice House and our Headquarters office in Cleveland. We usually hold two virtual training series each month. Upcoming training sessions are scheduled on Saturdays—June 4 & 11 from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm and Tuesdays & Thursdays—June 14, 16, 21, & 23 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. Registration for a specific series is contingent on meeting pre-registration requirements which include completing an application, criminal background check, and pre-screening interview. Rocky River Clean-Up

Join the Rocky River Watershed Council for the 22nd Annual Rocky River Clean-Up!

Bring boots and gloves and we'll bring everything else. Come on out for our annual Rocky River Cleanup - a fun, family friendly event followed by a cookout!

We'll meet at Scenic Park Picnic Area, Emerald Necklace Marina. Groups will spread out along the river to pick up trash, then re-convene for a cookout.

Meet the Trucks

The 16th annual Meet the Trucks event is returning after a two-year hiatus!

The event takes place at Lakewood Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 4. This popular event is attended by thousands of families from Northeast Ohio.

Meet the Trucks is put on by the Lakewood Early Childhood PTA in partnership with the City of Lakewood. The city will showcase the fleet that keeps the city running including: an ambulance, fire department ladder truck, police cruiser and motorcycle, a dump truck, a SWAT team vehicle, an aerial truck, a garbage truck, a snowplow, and a street cleaner.

Kids can touch, explore and honk the horns of the big machines. There also will be music, family entertainment, kids’ crafts, raffles and 40+ vendors including some of Lakewood’s best food venues.

Tower City Treasure Hunt

Ahoy, maties! You’re invited for an afternoon of pirates, mermaids, crafts, games and TREASURE! Get ready to set sail for a day of free activities including:

•Treasure Hunt – Follow your map from store to store to collect a bounty of treasure throughout Tower City.
•Character Meet-and-Greets – Where there is treasure, there are pirates. All lads and lassies will have a chance to meet Captain Hook along with his mermaid friends.
•Photo Opportunities – Say cheese! In addition to real treasure, there will be a life-size treasure chest for kids and families to pose in!
•Crafts – Prepare to show off your creative flair at the sand art station, where you can make your very own craft to bring home.
•Games – Searching for treasure is hard work, but pirates sure know how to have fun! Head to the game area for a round of pirate hook toss or walk the plank…if you dare!
