City hires Crisis Management with our money to deal with us

Postby Betsy Voinovich » Mon Jan 26, 2015 11:18 am

Hey! In the midst of all of this Lakewood Hospital talk I missed this thing about Crisis Management.

The last reference was in Jim O'Bryan's post last night in the "Is it time to move on?" thread-- viewtopic.php?f=7&t=13109

He said this:

"This is just getting interesting, now comes the cover up as witnessed by the City of Lakewood spending $20,000 for Crisis Management. When the Clinic leaves you need jobs, not crisis management. When you screw up a 100 year institution and the future of a city, you need crisis management! Now the questions is since it is a Lakewood company, is this
crisis management, or kicking more friends money from this deal?"

Does anybody know anything about this? Jim, how do you know there's a Crisis Management team at work? Did they write the glowing press release about how Lakewood was going to be the healthiest city in America? What are they doing with our money? I don't feel like I'm being managed that well.

Betsy

It is hard for me to find fault with this as I suggested to the Mayor a year ago to get a real
PR person that understand what is need, not just spins, pumps out what they are told, and
uses fake names to further the lies on various websites. PR is not the be handled by
rank amateurs with zero background in media. It is far different from rewriting other peole's
news stories as your own, and creating PR.

That said, City Council approved the hiring awhile back. This would mark the first time in
my knowledge base that the city hired a crisis management company. Of course the biggest
problem with hiring a crisis management company if it gets out is that you realized you had
a crisis on your hands.

This city could be such a great place, but City Hall has decided that we are just a bunch of
problems that need to be dealt with. Almost every "committee" this city has pulled together
over the past 15 or so years is a fake committee put together to make Lakewoodites think
they came up with the idea. Certainly Phase III, and now the Active Living Task Force are
very good recent examples. Both heavily stacked to come up with the very idea the people
putting the committee together wanted to get across. A complete charade.

I always go back to the "menopausal mothers of grant school*" and boy did I clean that one
up. Phase III was a nightmare deal constructed by Superintendent David Estrop to blow up
the school rebuilding program. He knew he was getting the axe, and wanted a little havoc.
In my opinion, the School Board should have said that, and said no meetings. Instead with
the help of many of the players in the hospital debacle, they went about crafting a charade
that would come up with Lincoln saved, and Grant closed. Boy did they pull some real crap
out of their butts for that one. However if you sat with "menopausal mothers of grant school"
and explained, that when packaged with the school Board building the property was worth
too much to the schools sold, as to hang on to it. The mothers, understood, and merely asked
for a school in the center of town, like at Kauffman Park.

Almost every time, they start another charade I have found that if you go and speak the
truth, the residents understand exactly what you are getting at.

However there is a small handful of people that think they are smarter than the city, and
hate to speak of what they do because people might object. They fear that would kill their
lame ass ideas instead of making them better and more accepted. That is sad.

So yes we did hire a crisis management company, I believe because City Hall has cost us
our hospital while trying to force a rec center down our throats and the throats of the Clinic.

Let the spin continue.

* "menopausal mothers of grant school" was the name used by those not wanting to keep
a school in the center of the city, by those that wanted Grant torn down. Such is their
dislike for the residents of this city that have a differing opinion.

Read that website. Sounds like they are waging a war.

Apparently, Lakewood residents are viewed as a "threat" that need to be managed.

From their website:

"Consider them your SWAT Team on steroids. Click below to learn more about each of these seasoned professionals."

This is so sad. If replacing the hospital with a clinic is good for the City why not try honesty, transparency and respect.

I suppose because doing so would provide time for people to consider the offer and the alternatives.

There's certainly a role for crisis management, perhaps even in this situation. But if the crisis they have in mind is the honest concerns of citizens for their community, that's pretty messed up.

Who has the Dramamine concession for Wednesdays meeting? Sounds like the spin is going to be pretty intense.

Does anyone know when City Council approved the expenditure for this?

Jim,

Thanks!

Are you sure that is the correct date?

I don't see any Council Meetings scheduled for this date.

Also the minutes for December and January have not been posted on the City website as of yet.

Rhonda

That is the date I was given. I just double checked.

I suppose they could be wrong, but they approved it so...?

I think what the city citizens should do, along with all the 1100 employees is go to this discussion and voice our concerns. If city hall and the leaders speak on behalf of the community, and the majority of the community does not want the hospital to close. Dont you think that a few political politicians should not be able to destroy the community?

We really need to band together and let our voices be heard........No one likes Bad press, not even the gorilla in the room. I also heard that there was another hospital to close....But can you imagine the bad press if CC closed two hospital within the same week?---they wont. they ned to wait 2-3 years in between! Its just a matter of time before there is Main campus East, and main campus west....
