I have been watching the Lakewood Hate Groups on FB eat themselves over this "latest failure" in park security.

People, get a hold of yourselves.

The system worked perfectly, People USING THE PARK noticed something wrong and told authorities. Others began to keep an eye on the person.

Then, when he acted, he was immediately confronted, identified and arrested.

This is how a safe city stays safe.

Use parks often. Criminals hate family and honest people around them.

Applause, Jim. I preached this for years about Kauffman Park. The key to safety in the park is more people in the park. Give people more reasons to come to the park and the City will create a safer park.

Dan

One of the most important aspects of Jane Jacobs' "The Death and Life of Great Cities" is that safety comes with use.

Bars on every corner, parks all around, big front porches being used are the nightmare for criminals.

While I think we are near the saturation point on bars, one of the reasons they work is they keep people coming and going until 3am, and not on a schedule that can be followed. Of course cars and drunks pose another problem.

When Lakewood took our nets down over a decade ago, I went to courts and parks all over the city. The safest still had their nets up and lights on. Others like Impett Park went dark, and in flowed opportunity. Today they are all trying to make them more active.

Criminals hate busy places with people with cell phones. They also hate noisy neighbors, make it a point to talk with all your neighbors, it makes the street safer for all.

Be proud of the vigilant city residents who observed, acted on and held the kidnapper until the police arrived. From the injuries on his face it appears the men that held him were not tolerant of this suspected pedophile attempting to kidnap a young boy. The police did what they by the the very nature of their job today, responded to calls, making arrests and filling out reports.
