BLM Unity Rally at Lakewood Park 6/13/20

Hundreds of protesters attended a unity rally on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
The event, organized by Mariah Davies and Devon White, had eight speakers address issues of systemic racism and police abuse.

  • Mariah Davies opened the event with a moment of silence for the 49 victims of the 2016 Pulse Nightclub Shooting in Orlando.  She then explained why she felt compelled to help organize the event here in Lakewood.  

  • Speakers addressed issues of systemic racism and police abuse. 

  • Devon White, who attended Lakewood City Schools, mentioned Lakewood's role in the Underground Railroad.  White has previously organized protests in Columbus.  

  • The event drew coverage from local television. 

  • A large, socially-distanced crowd attended on a sunsplashed afternoon.
