Colin getting casted for his foot orthotic
Colin had a rollercoaster ride of emotions today.  One minute he was happy and smiling and the next minute he was pouting and crying.  I know he has issues when I have to leave, and he knew I would be leaving for class tonight at CSU.  The psychologist, Pam, also talked with him about me going home overnight.  This totally upset him.  She agrees that he’s just not ready to let me go.  He was great during OT and PT.  He worked hard and smiled big.  I’m sure he was just so proud of himself.  He’s been lifting his arm and leg on his own and he couldn’t wait to show them.  Julie and Naomi praise him when he does well, which makes him work even harder.Jeff, from Orthotic and Prosthetic Specialties came today to cast Colin.  From the cast they make a mold which will be used to make him an Ankle-Foot Orthotic, or AFO.  His sister, Megan, wears AFOs on both feet.  Colin will be wearing one on his right foot to help keep his foot from dropping and to assist him with walking.  It will be a rigid AFO to begin with, but the plan is to hinge it later.  He did not choose to decorate it with pink and purple butterflies.  He chose the Chicago Blackhawk’s emblem that the Winterhurst and Cleveland Warriors use as their emblem.  It should be ready in about a week.Of course we played some Uno today, but when I tried to include another patient Colin got moody and didn’t want to play anymore.  He did not want to share my attention.  The nurse practitioner said all of his emotional immaturity is part of his brain injury.  It is frustrating to watch.Grandma Pat came to keep Colin company while I went to class.  She brought the game Skip-Bo with her and they played it a couple times.  Uncle Brian, Aunt Annie and Kyle came for a visit as well.  Grandma said he was able to keep his emotions in check while I was gone.  Thank goodness.Free Time for Nov. 10 – Nov. 14, 2008 Monday: 12:00-2:30 & 3:30-8:30 Tuesday: 12:00-2:00 & 3:00-8:30 Wednesday: 3:00-8:30 Thursday: 12:00-3:00, 3:30-4:30 & 6:30-8:30 Friday: 12:00-1:00 & 2:00-8:30
