"Yoga Basics" Followed By “Drum Circle: Healing With The Power Of Music and Drums” With Tommy Melarago & Friends

The Lakewood Council of PTAs is hosting a wellness series focused on taking care of yourself first. The series will feature workshops specifically designed for busy people looking to create balance and wellness in their lives. Participants will leave each workshop with the know-how to incorporate techniques into their day to day routine to help reduce stress and better manage a hectic schedule. Each instructor is a highly knowledgeable experienced professional certified in their field of expertise.

The next installment in the series is “Yoga Basics” followed by “Drum Circle: Healing with the Power of Music and Drums" on February 25th at 7 p.m. at Garfield Middle School. To register email lakewoodcouncil@gmail.com. The series is free for PTA member, $5 per workshop for non-members. Participants may join PTA the night of the event.

During “Yoga Basics” participants will learn about the origins of yoga as well as how yoga can benefit the physical body through stretching and strengthening as well as increased balance and flexibility. We’ll also discuss the mental and emotional benefits of yoga to reduce stress and promote more calm, peace and clarity for the mind and spirit. Instructor, Darlene Kelbach, will lead a yoga class to introduce basic poses and breathing exercises that can be easily incorporated into a daily lifestyle.

Darlene Kelbach is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with the Yoga Alliance and teach yoga as a freelance instructor throughout the Cleveland/Akron area who has been practicing yoga for approximately 11 years.

After yoga, stick around to enjoy the musical effects of the drums led by Tommy Melarago & Friends. Melaragno will be discussing the history of music and drums, and sharing evidence of its healing power. He will lead the group in playing/drumming with percussion instruments. Participants are encouraged to bring their own drum or percussion instrument. A limited amount of drums will be available to share.

Tommy Melaragno was born in Lakewood, the youngest of 8 siblings. Tommy Reggae has been with Jah Messengers Reggae Band since 2012. He feels blessed to be part of such a beautiful family, "Reggae's heartbeat and soul has been a part of Cleveland's music scene since 1978. To be a part of it and to speak the message of Jah has been a true gift.”
